Coach Deidra Rader is a graduate of Union HS and Oral Roberts University and is thrilled to be back in the Tulsa area! She is entering her 4th season as the Head Coach at Lincoln Christian School. Last year, the team won the 3A State Championship. Before every practice, the team utilized deep breathing and visualization of affirmations to enter their time together in a focused state of mind. Seeing the success of very minimal mental training, Deidra knew that gaining even more tools could help her athletes on a more individual basis. She joined the Positive Performance Mindset Coaching Academy and will complete training this fall.

Why is Mental Training Important?
We spend hours preparing physically to find optimal performance.

But it's not always about the physical preparation. Athletes often hit barriers that no amount of physical preparation can overcome. These barriers include:
Low Confidence, Nervousness, Overthinking, Self-Doubt, Fear

These barriers often manifest on the court through:
Inconsistency, Underperformance, Frustration, Blame, Regret, Not Having FUN

Mental Training is the best way to bypass these barriers by "working out" our brain.

What is Mental Training?
Mental Training is the ability to think (or not think) about what is needed at any given time for peak performance. Tools used to help train this ability include:

Emotional Control
Deep Breathing
Goal Setting

How do we benefit as a member of Club ONE?
This season, Coach Deidra will meet with each team to introduce them to a pre-practice and pre-game mental training exercise called the BRAVR method. She will workshop with them to create individual affirmations and a reset word to utilize in times of turmoil.

She can explore these additional tools listed above if athletes want to dig deeper. She will walk athletes through an assessment to pinpoint areas where players might most be struggling - the three biggest "pain points" being low confidence, competition issues, and lack of resilience.
